Important information for you before using the tool
This is not a test.
Though the purpose of any evaluation is to gather information about strengths and weaknesses, the Collections Care Index tool should be thought of as more of a foundational starting point. It can also be employed as a regular checklist.
An index is generally thought of as a barometer, one that is checked regularly. The Consumer Price Index and the Dow Jones Industrial Average are well-known economic indexes that fluctuate and update regularly to help decision-makers.
If you are responsible for collections, management, security, conservation, or any other role at a cultural heritage institution you may want to measure your work towards the health and well-being of your collections regular. This tool can help you check on the variety of responsibilities that can affect collections and once you’ve tallied a score you’ll know where you rank. If you want to improve your score, there are educational resources on the homepage of this site that you can tap into for deeper dives and technical information.
